One of the many charms of Thundercat's first album, The Golden Age of Apocalypse, was the manner in which the supernaturally skilled bassist seemed to wing his way through songwriting -- stumbling upon ideas, going with the flow, goofing off -- and come up with orhedmacocapartarebrattcoldthrifteg.xyzinfo his sharper, more focused second album, he works through anguish -- the loss of close friend and musical partner Austin Price: $

On his second album, Apocalypse, Thundercat pairs up with executive producer Flying Lotus to pull the veil back and reveal the simple truths of the cycle of life, for all its beauty and destruction. An album about loss and rebuilding, trying to gain something back, and capturing that moment of clarity where one finally finds feet back on the ground again.

The new one is simply titled Apocalypse, and it's out July 9 via Brainfeeder (and July 8 in Europe). The album was executive produced by Brainfeeder head honcho Flying Lotus, who co-wrote and co-produced "Heartbreaks + Setbacks" (above) with Bruner and Mono/Poly. Thundercat and Flying Lotus are also about to head out on tour together.
